Jumbo Tron Wisdom
What a beautiful day for a football game! Some friends offered us tickets to go see Baylor play the University of Texas in Austin today. I had never been to a game there and it was truly a sight to behold. We did not see a single UT fan there that was not wearing burnt orange or some kind of Longhorn paraphernalia. I remarked that it was so different from Baylor where we were just making sure we had a bow in our hair on game day!
When we first drove up, Caroline asked if those were real people in the stadium or just painted dots because it literally was a sea of burnt orange. Poor Brittany zipped up her jacket hiding her Baylor shirt and to make matters worse for Bill and I (aka proud Baylor alums), Jacob kept wanting to buy a longhorn jersey.
The whole thing was impressive…..the way they played, the magnitude of their stadium, the respectfulness of the fans…..but one of the things that struck me the most was a university commercial they ran several times on the jumbo tron. The message was about picking them as a university and it closed with the line…..“what starts here changes the world.”
I think I’m going to print that saying out and hang it somewhere in my house….because what is said of the university is surely even more true for our homes. What we teach our children while they are in our homes is what they will take into the world. Every single day we teach them by our attitudes, our actions, our words….but most importantly, by the way we live our lives.
Like I said, it was a great day of football with a little bit of wisdom thrown in. Caroline, Brittany, Savannah and Jacob….your dad and I are doing everything we can to give you a good start. There are plenty of times we have and will fail but we pray we get a lot more right than we do wrong. And we cannot wait to see how you each, in your on way, will change the world.
Sic ’em!
